Lions Feed on Moles

The first Sunday of May saw 1500 game trackers attempt to find their way back to their cars by following the barest minimum of clues.  Despite an in-depth study of the topography, the flow of the river and a few samples of possum dung to work from, tracker Mike remained uncertain as to whether those that had set off confidently ahead were really on the right path.

Tracker Gill using all the intuition of a seasoned aviator reckoned that given the clear visibility it was obvious that all we had to do was follow the railway line.  Easier said than done for those attempting the annual Manawatu Track and Tunnel Walk.

The organising Lions Club had failed to sweep the stones from the track causing many a stumble along the 8km and across 16 leaf and twig strewn pits disguised as bridges.  Having set these traps their exhausted prey was corralled through two very long and very dark tunnels onto a clearing encircled by the feeding pack.  Blinded and confused the trackers were to learn the real quarry.
